Dr. Alan Sag

Bringing a decade of experience in Interventional Radiology and Interventional Oncology, Dr. Sag joins from Duke University to become Medical Director of Hemorrhoid & IR Centers at Gastro Health Miami. He is board certified in Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology, completing medical school at the University of North Carolina, Diagnostic Radiology residency at Beaumont Health in Michigan, and subspecialty training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cornell NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.

His areas of expertise include embolization, ablation, kyphoplasty, nerve blocks, and thyroid interventions. In the domain of advanced outpatient interventions he has performed a high volume of liver y90 radioembolization; tumor ablation including liver, kidney, soft tissue, and bone; kyphoplasty with spine metastasis RFA; nerve blocks and RFA/Cryoablation for cancer pain and non-cancer pain. He holds over 60 publications and nationally invited speakerships ranging these topics.

At Duke, Dr. Sag held joint faculty appointments in Interventional Radiology and Orthopaedic Surgery and built three high-volume nationally-recognized service lines, expanding several treatments not otherwise available to patients in the state of North Carolina:

  • Orthopaedic Interventional Oncology service, developed in collaboration with partners from Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery, including tumor embolization and complex ablation, spine and pelvis cementoplasty, and collaborative percutaneous osteosynthesis.

  • Interventional Radiology Pain Management service, developed in collaboration with partners from Palliative Care, Anesthesiology, and Sports Medicine, including nerve blocks, nerve ablation for arthritis pain, complex nerve ablation for cancer and non-cancer pain, and regional anesthesia techniques, ultimately being selected as the first Interventional Radiologist on the NCCN Adult Cancer Pain Guidelines panel in 2023.

  • Thyroid RFA and Embolization service, founded in collaboration with partners from Endocrine Surgery and Endocrinology, providing minimally invasive options for patients with symptomatic enlarged thyroid glands, ultimately yielding one of the first book chapters on anatomy and technique for goiter embolization from the United States.

Dr. Sag joins IR Centers to continue his passion to bring the benefits of minimally invasive outpatient therapies to the patients of Miami.
